Latin American Studies Program

The Latin American Studies Program is an interdisciplinary, broadly based undergraduate degree program that offers courses in Latin American history, politics, anthropology, geography, and literature. Students can select from an array of courses that enable them to explore Latin America from a variety of perspectives while also having the opportunity to focus their studies on a particular field. LASP majors are encouraged to undertake a study abroad program and are eligible for financial support for such educational endeavors in Latin America.

The major in Latin American Studies affords an excellent background for graduate or professional school or for careers in the business or non-profit sector. As a minor or cognate, Latin American Studies richly complements majors in many other fields, including Anthropology, Business, Geography, GINT, History, Journalism, and Spanish.

In keeping with its mission of fostering campus and community awareness of issues related to Latin America, the program sponsors public lectures, workshops, and symposia, and supports faculty and student research on topics related to Latin America and Latino/a communities in South Carolina.
