European Studies Major and Minor


Major (24 hours)

Electives (18 hours) are to be selected in consultation with program director from an approved list of interdisciplinary courses. Substitutions allowed when appropriate. A thesis option (EURO 499), is also encouraged but not required.

European Language Study Requirement. EURO majors are expected to acquire proficiency in a European language other than English. They must have proof of 6 hours of 300-level language coursework or the equivalent AND complete a study abroad experience in Europe, ideally in a region where the language of study is spoken, via a summer or semester program. Scholarships are available.
EURO students are in charge of their major: together with the Program Director, they create a program of study that examines a central theme, for example, terrorism; borders, migration, and refugees; trends in popular culture; European Union integration and expansion; regional history; or issues specific to a country or region.



Minor (18 hours)
